Aber wilt in second half heat

Abergavenny started the new season by welcoming old rivals NHSOB to Bailey park hoping for a good start under new coaches Nathan Thomas and Simon Williams.

From the kick off the visitors went on the offensive and for ten minutes put Aber under severe pressure, but after several close range line outs and scrums the home side defended well and worked their way back into the game. Abergavenny now started to play some rugby with both backs and forwards handling the ball and moving the big opposition pack around the field which eventually resulted in center Will Williams crossing for an unconverted try. From the restart the home side went back on the offensive once again and were unfortunate not to score on a couple of occasions but were eventually rewarded with a penalty converted by full back Josh Parr. The game was severely disrupted then with continuous stoppages for injuries and two unsightly fracas which resulted in two red cards one for the Aber winger and the Newport center. Right on the stroke of half time with the home side down to 13 men due to a yellow card, the away side scored a close range try to leave the half time score 8-5 to Abergavenny.

NHSOB started the second half with a bang starving the home side of any worthwhile possession and putting Aber under intense pressure for long periods and were rewarded with three unanswered try's to put them in the lead 8-26. Even though the game was lost this young Aber side did not give up trying and were rewarded with a well worked try by scrum half Rhob Connick. The away side had the last say when a poorly defended scrum allowed the away side to finish the scoring and a well deserved 13 -32 victory.
