Aber tame the Falcons

On a very wet and windy afternoon Abergavenny welcomed Abertysswg to Bailey park expecting a tough encounter from a side two places above them in the league.

Aber were able to field a fairly similar side to the week previous with Josh van Male and Josh Davies returning to the pack and James Lewis and Stuart Davies the only changes behind. Abergavenny started the game playing with pace and control stretching the away side and putting them under long periods of pressure eventually resulted in Aber being awarded a penalty which full back Dan Hayman kicked with a howling gale behind him only for the ball to strike the upright and rebound into the arms of winger James Lewis who ran strongly to beat the cover to open the scoring Dan Hayman converted and soon added a penalty to give the home side a10-0 lead. Abergavenny continued to dominate the game and soon increased their lead when scrum half Ryan Joyce scored an unconverted try to give the home side a15-0 half time lead.

Abertysswg now had the elements in their favour and took full advantage of it and kept Aber pined back in their own half for long periods but they defended manfully to keep their line intact. After being starved of possession the clarets turned the ball over and winger Lewis ran out of defence to link up with Stuart Davies who passed to Hayman who crossed the half way line to find Will Williams inside him to take the pass and cross under the posts for an excellent try considering the conditions, converted by Hayman to leave the final score 22-0 to the home side.

Next week make the short journey to Ebbw vale to take on R T B .
