Aber up the heat and melt the steel men

Abergavenny traveled up the heads of the valleys to meet RTB Ebbw vale in this league fixture the first time they had played each other in a league match in most people's memory.

The side showed several changes from the week before with former youth prop Jack Williams having his first start of the season with Ieuan James and Jamie Knight in the front row, Luke Williams and Dan Horler were in the second row and Dan Smith, Dan Beavan and Josh Davies formed the back row. Ryan Joyce and Matt Sevenoaks formed a new half back partnership with Stuart Davis and Nathan Byrne at center, James Lewis, Dan Dunmore and Ryan Williams were the back three.

From the start RTs took the game to the away side shocking them with thier intensity and organised attack and soon took the lead with a penalty. Abergavenny responded to this and launched a sustained period of pressure thereselves when after a sharp break through the defence by Stuart Davis resulted in a try for lock forward Dan Horler converted by Matt Sevenoaks. Not to be outdone RTs came straight back at Aber and from a speculative chip from a line out they won the race for the touchdown even if it was questionable to say the least. The away side once again responded and played their way up the field where they gained a line out close to the line and from this they took clean ball and from the drive that followed no8 Josh Davies claimed the try converted by Sevenoaks to give Abergavenny a11-14 lead at half time.

Aber were forced to make two changes to the front row Rob Lothian and Jay Admans came on and immediately made their presence felt putting the home sides scrum under pressure and putting the away side on the front foot allowing them to play some excellent attacking rugby. RTs were now defending for their lives and their kicking out of defence was giving Abers full back Williams plenty of catching practice which he was doing well and running the ball back with interest until his match came to an ubrupt end when he was showed a red card by the ref for some questionable rough play leaving Abergavenny down to 14 men. This blow did not stop Abers continuous pressure and another break from Davis from the half way line took play to the 22 where he found flanker Dan Beavan in support who galloped over to score, converted by Sevenoaks, to give Aber a 11-21 lead. The away side now rung the changes with Nathan Thomas, Paul Cornock and Sam Vaughan coming onto the field and giving the home side more problems. A bonus point was soon secured when center Nathan Byrne powered over for a fine try and the scoring was completed when prop Jack Williams scored his first senior try for the club to give Abergavenny a fine11-31 victory and a much needed bonus point.

Next week the Quins are at home to Caldicot come along and support the boys.
