Aber swoop and tame the Falcons

A week last Saturday Abergavenny travelled to Abertysswg to face the Falcons and were looking to record their tenth league victory on the bounce but they knew they would have to be right on their game to win the spoils at this most difficult ground against a very abrasive home team. Abergavenny's coaches made several rotational changes to the team with Jamie Knight, Jay Adams and Rob Lothian forming a new front row Luke Williams and Josh Van Mael were in the boiler house, Nathan Thomas came in at number eight flanked by Dan Beavan and Rudi Lewis. Ryan Joyce returned from injury to partner Rhod Webster at half back, Dan Smith and Stuart Davies continued at center and Lloyd Holder came in to join Dan Dunmore and Will Williams as the back three.

Abergavenny began with a bang taking the game to the home side and not giving them a chance to settle, Abers scrum was totally dominant and from this they were able to get a foothold deep in Abertysswgs half and were only prevented from opening the scoring by determined defence and a few unforced errors. After a long period of pressure Aber eventually opened the scoring with a well taken penalty by Rhod Webster, but despite further long periods of intense pressure failed to add to their score and then disaster struck when with their only visit into Abergavennys half the home side scored a converted try from a set piece move to give them a 7-3 lead at half time albeit very much against the run of play.

Aber started the second half meaning business and with several strong bursts by center Stuart Davies they soon gained themselves a foothold in opposing 22 and resulted in another penalty by Webster. Once again the Genny went straight back to work and soon got into the lead, Ryan Joyce took a quick tap penalty and fed the ball to Stuart Davies who made good ground before passing to Will Williams who found flanker Dan Beavan in support to cross the line for a try to give Aber a 7-11 lead. For the rest of the game Aber continued to dominate possession and  territory and the introduction of subs Jack Williams Ieaun James  Matt Charles Will Evans and scrum half Rhob Connick only galvanised the team. Rhod Webster kicked two further penalties to stretch the lead to 7-17 and the game looked in the bag but in the dying seconds of the game Abertysswg put some pressure on Abers line and were awarded a somewhat dubious penalty try to leave the final score 14-17 to Abergavenny, another good victory for the Bailey park outfit.

Aber return to league action on the 17 th of Feb at home to RTB .
