Aber win in the rain

Abergavenny first team returned to action this Saturday with Tredegar Ironsides being the visitors to Bailey park on a wet miserable afternoon.

Abers side showed several changes from the previous league game Rob Lothian joined Ieaun James and Nathan Harris in the front row, Will Evans and Nathan Thomas formed the second row and in the back row Dan Beavan was joined by new recruits Rhys Dawe and Nicky Phippins. The half backs were Rhob Connick and Matt Sevenoaks with Rhodri Webster and Dan smith in the center the back three was made up of Will williams Josh Parr and Garin Price.

Abergavenny were playing away from the clubhouse in the fist half but it was the visitors who had the upper hand in the first quarter aided by some wayward home kicking and poor discipline which enabled Tredegar to keep Aber pined in their own half. Eventually the home side managed to get their hands on the ball and exert some pressure on the away team which resulted in a penalty kick converted by Josh Parr. From the restart Aber went straight back on the offensive and from a very well organised driving line out Rhys Dawe crossed for an unconverted try. Abergavenny were now playing with confidence and were stretching the away sides defence at every opportunity which eventually resulted in wing Will williams crossing in the corner to give the home side a 13-0 half time lead.

The second half started much the same as the first finished with the home side camped in Tredegar's half but as much as they tried the next score seemed to elude them, mainly due to poor decision making, dropped passes and dogged defence from the away team. Eventually the next score came once again from a well worked driving line out with flanker Rhys Dawe claiming his second touch down of the game. Abergavenny should now have pushed on for the bonus point try but the away side had other ideas and played the better rugby in the closing stages of the game to score two consolation tries of their own to leave the final score 18-10 to Abergavenny.

Next week the first team are at home to Deri and the Quins to Gwernyfed all support much appreciated .
