Aber progress in the bowl.

Abergavenny returned to Tredegar for the first round of the National Bowl Competition with a much changed team from the previous weeks league match.

Rob Lothian came into the front row joining Nick Gethin and Ieuan James, Will Evans was partnered by Matt Collins and the back row was Dan Beavan, Joe Symonds and Cj Woodhouse.

A new half back partnership of Ryan Joyce and Stuart Davies took the field with Gareth Beavan and Dan Smith in the center, Lloyd Holder, Steve Jones and Will Williams made up the back three.

Aber started the game looking much the stronger team keeping the ball for long periods and keeping the home side under constant pressure. This  eventually resulted in two excellent tries one for winger Lloyd Holder and another for full back Will Williams which were both converted by Williams to give Abergavenny a 14-0 lead. Abergavenny continued to dominate play with the scrum dominant and the forwards wining quick quality ball enabling the backs to run riot behind and a futher try was added by half time scored and converted by Will Williams.

The second half began in a similar fashion with Abers backs runing the ball at every opportunity and adding two more try's one by winger Steve Jones and the other by Will Williams which he converted to give him a personal tally of 23 points. Aber now used all their subs with Sam price replacing Symonds Stuart Dixon came on for Lothian as the Irons had gone to passive scrums, Rhob Connick and John Owen replaced the half backs and Daren Pritchard came on at no 8. To be fair to the home team they never gave up trying and were rewarded with two late tries to leave the final score 12-33 to Abergavenny.

Next week Aber return to league rugby with a visit to Machen .
