1st XV face Excellent Bedlinog

Abergavenny travelled to Bedlinog on Saturday with a side showing many changes
from the previous week. Dan Davies, Alfie Lewis, Olly Milson, Callum Poole, Dan
Beavan, Max Gregory, Luke Evans and Rob Dudley-Jones made up the forwards.
Rhys Ferguson, Will Rees, Ben Evans, Lewis Prendergast, Harvey Barrier, Anthony
Squire and Dayle Price formed the backs.

From the kick-off the Bedlinog forwards imposed themselves on the game, their
power at scrum time put them on the front foot to enable their big ball carriers to test
the Abergavenny defense. The gaps soon appeared and during a twenty-minute
spell Bedlinog crossed the tryline four times to open up a 28 – 0 lead. Tom Powell
was introduced to add some experience in the front row, this improved the set piece
but the hosts were soon over the tryline again when a defensive kick was collected
by the Bedlinog winger who ran through Abergavenny defenders, creating a try for
the home side. At 33 – 0 the home side looked very comfortable, but Abergavenny
came back into the game from this point, they created pressure in the Bedlinog 22,
after many phases of play, a overhead pass from Will Rees put Anthony Squire into
the corner for Abergavenny’s first score to close the score to 33 – 5 at the interval.

Aaron Mills, Dylan Edwards and Kiatisak Tinanop were introduced in the second half.
Early in the second half Kiatisak Tinanop collected a defensive kick, fed Ben Evans
who carved a way through the defensive line, he found Anthony Squire who went
close to the tryline. Dan Beavan was on hand to collect the recycled ball and dart
over for the try, converted by Harvey Barrier to close the score to 33 – 12. Bedlinog
had the next period of pressure and they managed to extend their lead to 40 – 12
with a three quarter move into the corner. Morgan West-Jones came on to energize
the visitor’s forward effort, they were soon on the attack, after a direct run from Ben
Evans, Dylan Edwards was on hand to score Abergavenny’s third try, converted by
Harvey Barrier. With only minutes left Abergavenny began to play expansively
searching for the bonus point try, this resulted in an interception for Bedlinog to
extend the final scoreline to 47 – 19.
