Losing Bonus point Salvaged at Caldicot

Abergavenny travelled to Caldicot on a very wet and dour afternoon to do battle with one of the high fliers in division two .

Aber were forced to make a couple of changes to their side Rob Lothian came into the front row with Ryan Morgan and Tom Powell Will Evans and Rhys Dawe in the second row Alex Howes joined Dan Beavan and Josh Davies in the back row . Rhob Connick and Rhod Webster continued at half back with James Lewis returning to partner Nathan Byrne in the center, Anthony Squire and the Butler boys were the back three .

The home side started the game with more urgency and opened the scoring with an unconverted try soon followed by a penalty to give them a 8-0 lead . Aber came back into the game in the second period of the half putting the home side under pressure for long periods but were unable to get on the score board due to some elementary errors and some very pedantic refereeing and the half finished with the home side leading .

The start of the second half began in the same vain as the first with the home side camped in the Abergavenny twenty two but resolute defence kept them out . Aber now had their best period and when Jack Butler set of on a scintillating run from deep in his own half cutting through the home defence to find James Lewis in support to cross for a unconverted try to put Aber back in the game .

As much as both sides tried to play open rugby the conditions and the stop start nature of the game prevented this with the penalty count now exceeding thirty the game fizzled out with Caldicot adding a further penalty to give them victory 11-5 . A rather disappointed and wet support trudged off home hoping for better things to come when we play Pill Harriers on the 7th of December at Bailey Park.
