Mike 'Bomber' Aylett

Abergavenny Rugby Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mike “Bomber” Aylett a true Abergavenny rugby man and a loyal servant who served the Club with distinction over some 50 years.

Mike represented the Club as a Player, Captain (1969/70) Committee Man, Chairman (1977 to 2013), and was duly honoured as a life member.

Mike always attributed his longevity and incredible record of 36 years as the longest-serving chairman in the Clubs` 145-year history to the support of his late wife and soul mate Eunice, who was also honoured as a life member for her contribution to the Club.

Mike was always extremely proud of his Club's achievements and on reflection it's fitting to mention, Abergavenny taking on the might of Llanelli at Stradey Park in 1983 during his tenure as Chairman.

More recently the Clubs victory over Oakdale in winning the WRU Bowl in 2019 at the Principality Stadium home of Welsh rugby.

Although I'm sure there are many more memories to be shared over a pint in the Clubhouse.

From his Rugby family, we send our sincere condolences and best wishes to Mike's family and friends.

Yours in Rugby

Huw Beavan

Chairman
