Abergavenny Quins travelled to Monmouth on Saturday to take on their old rivals in the semi final of the Reg Buttress shield .
The game was contested by two very evenly matched sides but it was Aber who took the initiative first scoring two tries the first by Sam Vaughan and the second by Will Williams both converted by Lewis Evans to give the Quins a 0-14 lead .
Monmouth came right back into the game and scored two unconverted tries but with Lewis Evans kicking a penalty it gave the Quins a 10-17 lead at halftime.
The second half was equally entertaining but their was no further score and the Quins defended heroically to secure the victory and a place in the final on the 24th of April at Pontypool United .
The large crowd present were treated to a good afternoons entertainment and this was a great advert for second team rugby in Wales.
Next Saturday the Quins take on Talywain at Bailey Park in a top of the table clash .
