Brian Shackleton: A tribute

Abergavenny Rugby Club are saddened to hear of the passing of Brian Shackleton, “Shack”, an ardent supporter and player of both Rugby and Cricket in the town.

Although, perhaps Brian`s first love was cricket as he could hear the sound of leather on willow from his home, adjacent to the cricket ground in Avenue Road.

Players and members of certain vintage will remember when Brian served loyally as a committee man at the Club, supporting the players of that generation, particularly enjoying a beer in the bar after the match.

Brian also participated in the Club`s first ever tour to Jersey in the early 70`s, as the saying goes, what goes on tour stays on tour, but it appeared a beer with breakfast was compulsory on the Shack table.

The Club for many seasons as been extremely grateful for the generous sponsorship supplied by Brian’s family business H Shackleton chemists, which continues to this day with support of his sons Ian and Geoff.

His Rugby family send our sincere condolences and best wishes to Brian`s family and friends.
