Aber Top Table After Defeating Rivals

Abergavenny returned to league action with table toppers Garndiffaith the visitors to Bailey Park in what promised to be a tough encounter and the large crowd present weren't to be disappointed.
Once again the Aber side had a fairly settled look about it, Nathan Harris started at loose head Jay Adams and Rob Lothian completed the front row Dan Horler and Will Evans locked the scrum the back row had Captain Josh Davies at number eight flanked by Dan Beavan and Rhys Dawe. Rhob Connick and Rhod Webster continued at half back Nathan Byrne came in at center with Dan Smith and the back three was made up of Antony squires and Garin Price on the wings with Josh Parr at full back.
Before kick off a minutes silence was observed to pay tribute to club stalwart Ron Hinksmam who passed away this week and every one at the club sends its thoughts and best wishes to all his family.
The home side started the game with purpose and determination keeping the ball well and making the Garn defence work hard. After about ten minutes of constant pressure Aber opened the scoring when captain Josh Davies crashed over after a forward drive. The home side went straight back on the offensive and after going through numerous phases winger Antony Squires was put clear to score a second unconverted try.
From the restart the home side seemed to switch off and Garndiffaith took the initiative and scored a good try of their own to bring them right back into the game. The home side reacted to this score by going straight back on the offensive and were soon rewarded with their third try a second for Josh Davies, This was followed by their fourth and bonus point try when Dan Beavan stole a line out and scorched through the defence to score under the posts.
Once again from the kick of the Garn went on the offensive and after keeping the ball through several phases were rewarded with their second try to leave the game finely balanced at 22-14 at half time.
The second half was business as usual with Aber keeping the away side pined in their 22 and under constant pressure. They were eventually rewarded for their hard work when Rhob Connick sniped over to score a fine individual try. Abers coaches now rung the changes with Gareth Williams and Matt Charles bolstering the pack and Matt Sevenoaks in the three quarters, but once again back came the Garn when they scored another converted try from an unfortunate interception.
The home side not to be daunted went straight back to work and scored two more tries in quick succession by replacements Matt Charles and Sam Vaughan to make the game safe. Aber continued to attack at every opportunity and when a line out was turned over in their own 22 the ball was moved along the line for Squires to produce a brilliant finish to score his second try and leave the final score 44-21 and take Abergavenny to the top of the league.
Due to the autumn internationals Aber’s next home game is at home to Nantyglo on Saturday 1st December and have been drawn away to Treharis in the WRU Bowl 4th Round on the Saturday 8th December.
