The Genny Girls travelled to play Penallta on Sunday in Ladies Cup Competition, and recorded a 31-10 win, to continue their improving performance in recent games.

With Captain Zara Rogers leading from the front ably supported by her pack of forwards with Zoe Harris, Mel Sharp & Kayleigh Watkins in the front and second row pairing of Jodie Fleet and the aptly named Morgan Goodenough, with Gemma Harris and Jackie Lewis joining Zara in the back row.

With half backs Chanice Morris and Jade Edwards setting their back line away at every opportunity strong running centres Jade Hanbury and Any Clatyton causing havoc in the Penallta defence, with full back Danielle Meredith entering the line at pace this gave the  wings Kim Brown and Justine Ford to run hard for the line.

Of the five tries scored the first was probably the pick of the bunch, Jackie Lewis won clean line out ball on the Abergavenny 10 metre line the forwards with the classical two pick & drives drove hard into opposition half for Chanice Morris and Jade Edwards to send Jade Handbury away on a outside run with a superbly timed pass to fellow centre Amy Clayton who then beat a couple of defenders on a 40 metre run to the line. This gave the Genny Girls the confidence to produce their best rugby of the season with backs and forwards involved in the next two scores, a second try for Clayton and one for wing Kim Brown, with Jade Edwards converting all three tries give the Girls a 21 points lead.

To their credit Penallta stuck to their task at hit back with two unconverted tries, before the Girls rallied themselves to add two further tries, Clayton bagged her third, Kayleigh Watkins charged over for the fifth, converted by Edwards, to run out winners.

The Penallta coaches picked the Nanty girl Amy Clayton as their back of the match & Mel Sharp as the forward, but this was outstanding team performance by the Genny Girls, with all players contributing to the win
